- Basis weight (gsm)
- Mass of paper or board per square metre, in grams. Sheeters are rated for a gsm range.
- Cut-off length
- The length of each sheet in the running direction, set on the sheeter control panel.
- Cut-off accuracy
- How much the actual sheet length may deviate from the set cut-off length, e.g. ±0.3 mm.
- Knife loading
- The total basis weight the knife can cut in one pass, across all webs, e.g. 1,000 g/m².
- Synchro rotary knife
- Two rotating knives cutting in sync, used for heavy board and tight tolerances.
- Decurler
- Unit that removes reel curl from the web before cutting so sheets lie flat.
- Slitting
- Cutting the web lengthwise to sheet width and trimming the edges before the cross cut.
- Overlap delivery
- Conveyor that slows the cut sheets and shingles them so they stack without edge damage.
- Layboy
- Delivery section where sheets are stacked on a pallet; the pallet sits on a steel plate that lowers as the pile grows.
- Pile height
- Maximum height of the sheet stack at delivery, usually stated including the pallet.
- Cut-to-register
- Cutting pre-printed reels on a print mark so the image sits in the same place on every sheet.
